Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a color image with superior resolving power, sharpness, etc. by adding a yellow dye forming coupler having a hydantoin-3-yl group with a chain or cyclic N-contg. compound group bonded at the 5-position through the N as a substituent in the active methylene group. CONSTITUTION:To a photographic silver halide emulsion layer is added a compound represented by formula I (where A is a residue after eliminating H from the active methylene group of a yellow dye forming coupler; X is H, optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, acryl, NO2 or NH2; Y is H, optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, ureid, alkoxy, heterocyclic, oxy or the like; each of R1 and R2 is H, optionally substituted alkyl, aryl or acyl; X and Y may bond to each other to form a ring; and R1 and R2 may bond to each other to form a ring). The compound represented by formula I includes the compound of formula II. This 2-equiv. coupler has a high coupling rate and gives a superior image.
