Abstract
674,096. Tyre valves. HIGGINS, E. E. April 21, 1950 [Dec. 14, 1949], No. 32030/49. Class 135. A combined inflation and pressure relief valve for pneumatic tyres, etc. comprises a tubular member 20 carrying a standard non-return valve 3, and slidable in a housing 1 against the action of a spring 23 to permit escape of excess pressure through holes 25. A sealing washer 21 is provided. The housing is threaded at 33 to receive a dust cap which encloses the outer end of the member 20. In a modification, the member 20, which is loaded by a helical spring, has a conical exterior surface to coact with a conically-shaped bore in the housing 1. In this form, the washer 21 is omitted and the holes 25 are optional. The holes 25 may be left with sharp edges to give audible warning when the relief valve opens.
