Abstract

673,819. Rolling; making finned tubing. CALUMET & HECLA CONSOLIDATED COPPER CO. May 5, 1948 [Nov. 10, 1947], No. 12404/48. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). Apparatus for forming a helical fin on a length of metal tubing comprises a plurality of discs 18-21 rigidly mounted on an arbor 16, the discs having annular portions decreasing in thickness towards their peripheries and the grooves between the discs being symmetrical about their median planes which are equispaced axially of the arbor. Thus the hubs H of the discs are of equal thickness. Three such rolls are used as in Specification 673,818. In a modification, the discs 37, Fig. 6, are straight sided.
