Abstract
673,579. Fluid pressure jacks. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE OBERHAUSEN AKT.-GES. July 13, 1950. [July 13, 1949] No. 17589/50. Class 78 (iii). [Also in Group X] A two-part fluid pressure pit prop has an inflatable vessel 7, Fig. 1. of rubber or like material located between abutments 6, 3 on the upper and lower prop parts and a storage space 8 in the lower part from which the pressure mediutn is driven into the vessel 7. The space 8 is connected with the vessel 7 by tubes 9, 10, via a pump 11 with an adjustable stop valve. Where the pressure medium is water only, it is pumped into the vessel 7 by operating the pump 11 by means of a removable lever arm. Alternatively compressed air may be forced into the space 8 through a valve 12, thus driving the water into the vessel 7 to cause the prop head to abut against the roof, and the final loading of the prop may be produced by subsequent pumping. As another alternative compressed air only, may be used as the pressure medium. To protect the walls of the vessel 7 against abrasion on the inner walls of the prop parts, metal rings 14. Fig. 2, are vulcanized in the wall of the vessel 7 and wire rings 16 around it maintain it in folds under tension when not under pressure and ensure the abutment of the rings 14 against the inner walls of the prop parts.
