Abstract

A colouring agent for hair is characterized by 5 to 25 per cent of folia hennae, 10 to 50 per cent of fatty alcohol sulphonate and 0.5 to 10 per cent of a basic organic colouring matter comprising 2 to 4 amino groups which may or may not be substituted by lower alkyl groups. Sodium phosphate, soluble starch and a synthetic washing agent may also be added. The hair is treated with an aqueous paste containing the mixture, is kept at a temperature of 35 DEG to 40 DEG C. for some time, e.g. by covering the hair with a cap for about half an hour, and is finally rinsed. An example is given in which a paste is used made up from a mixture of folia hennae, fatty alcohol sulphonate, Brun Rouge B, radix bardanae, sodium phosphate, soluble starch, alkali-free synthetic washing agent and sodium borate.
