In the high speed feeding of can covers to transfer means associating them with the cans to be covered, a stack of covers is supported by a number of continuously rotating feeder screws, which feed them one by one from the bottom of the stack, means, comprising projectable lugs, taking over the support of the stack and allowing the screws to continue. rotating when a break in the continuity of the can feed occurs. This is effected by pins 29 depending from the ring and received in slide blocks 28 moving within the forked end of the lugs which are thereby caused to pivot inwardly into the well at the level of the top surface of the feeder screws and support the cover stack whilst the screws continue to rotate. On retraction of the lugs by resumption of the can feed a cover is conveyed by one revolution of the screws. Specification 673,475, [Group XXII], is referred to.
