Abstract

673,047. Friction clutches. RANZI, U. Aug. 15, 1950 [Aug. 16, 1949], No. 20245/50. Class 80 (ii). In a powder clutch, the rotor 3 or the drum 1 or both has spiral grooves on its two sides, the grooves being of opposite hand on the two sides so that the powder is caused to circulate round the rotor, through inclined openings 5 in the latter. The grooves are ratchet shaped, one side being normal to the surface of the member. When the grooves extend continuously from one side to the other, as shown, they may be slightly undercut at the outermost part.
