Abstract

672,137. Mixing for cement manufacture. SOC. ANON. DES FONDERIES, LAMINOIRS & ATELIERS DE BIACHE ST. VAAST. Jan. 31, 1949 [Feb. 2, 1948; May 21, 1948; Jan. 19, 1949], Nos. 2652/49, 2653/49 and 2654/49. Class 86 [Also in Group V] A mixing machine for use in the preparation of cement by passing direct current through a paste of powdered blastfurnace slag and water, comprises mixing- blades connected to the negative pole of a source of supply, the anode or anodes, formed of an inert material such as graphite or magnetite, being immersed in water surrounding a porous ring containing the paste. The paste is contained within a porous ring 11 resting on the bottom of a mixing vessel 12 and surrounded by a perforated plate 37 forming the anode, the vessel 12 outside the ring 11 being filled with running water. Inside the ring is an apertured cylinder 14 supported on rollers 16, 16' running on tracks 17, 17<1> above the vessel, the cylinder being rotated by gearing from a shaft 27. A series of paddles 24 depends into the cylinder and is adapted to be rotated in the opposite direction to the cylinder. The cylinder and paddles are connected to the negative pole of a source of direct-current supply so as to form a composite rotating cathode. Additional anodes and cathodes; may be provided if desired.
