671,231. Fluid-pressure horns. VICKERSARMSTRONGS, Ltd. Oct. 26, 1950. [Nov. 23, 1949] No. 30052/49. Class 13. In a horn of the type in which sound is produced by interruption of the flow of operating fluid, e.g. steam, by a diaphragm, the diaphragin 4 is peripherally secured in the main chamber 1 of a casing 2 and closes the outlet 10 of an auxiliary chamber 9 having a restricted steam inlet 11. The steam passes under the control of a valve 18 from a passage 13 through a jacket 12 surrounding both chambers to a convergent-divergent nozzle constituting the restricted inlet 11. The main chamber 1 and the inlet end of a trumpet 3 are shaped so. that steam is deflected onto the back of the diaphragm 4 to assist its vibration. In a modification, the nozzle is replaced by an adjustable throttling valve.
