Abstract

671,131. Reservoir pens. McKAY, N. Jan. 25, 1950 [July 11, 1949], No. 1947/50. Class 146 (iii). A fountain pen of the type having a reserve ink supply for transfer to the main ink chamber when the latter has been emptied, comprises a body portion formed of a plurality of sections threadably engageable with each other, a main ink chamber in one of such sections, a reserve ink chamber at the rear of said main chamber, a check valve between said chambers, a pump to fill both chambers, and a check valve to prevent the ink from the reserve chamber escaping. A reserve ink chamber 8 is separated from a main ink chamber 7 by a wall 10 having an opening 11 normally closed by a spring-urged ball checkvalve 13. A tubular member 16 carrying a rubber sac 25 serves as a pump and is provided at its rear end with a hole 19 which when dipped into a supply of ink allows ink to be drawn into the chamber 8 when the pump is reciprocated. When the chamber 8 is full, ink is forced, on further actuation of the pump, past the valve 13 into the chamber 7. When the supply of ink in the main chamber has been used, ink from the chamber 8 may be forced into the main chamber by actuating the pump, ink being prevented from escaping from the chamber 7 through the member 16 by a second spring-urged ball check-valve 21.
