Abstract
671,060. Centrifugal pumps. WERNERT, K. July 6, 1949, No. 17921/49. Class 110(i) [Also in Group XXXIV] Chambers 9 and 34 on either side of a thrust balancing differential piston 2, 3 are in communication, through peripheral clearances 5, 7, 12, 10, with the outlet of the pump rotor 32. Water passes through grooves 16 to lubricate a bearing 8, and is expelled through openings 37, 38 by means of a water-ring compressor 36. Axial, displacement of the shaft 1 due to excessive upward thrust on the differential piston causes throttling at clearances 7, 10, thereby reducing the pressure in the chamber 9 and increasing that in chamber 34 so as to restore the shaft to its equilibrium position. A bush 17 carried by the shaft is ried by the shaft is journalled in a bearing 21. Oil from a reservoir 24 is circulated by centrifugal action through channels 31, 25 and holes 22 to the bearing surface, a groove 23 allowing the oil to spread. Covers 27 and 30 are provided.
