670,137. Spectacle frames. JAMESON, W., and JAMESON, Ltd., W. Oct. 4, 1950 [Oct. 13, 1949], No. 26300/49. Class 97 (i). A temple hinge member is carried by a fitment having a fork engaged by the rim of a plastic spectacle frame, the rim also having a fork perpendicular to that of the fitment, to engage the latter, the two parts being held together by releasable means such as a screw. A similar fitment may hold a hinge member to the end of the temple arm which is similarly forked. As shown, the rim fitment comprises a member 1 having a fork 2 and hinge lugs 3, and the rim lug 8 is forked and has recesses 9a to receive the fork of the fitment member, the fork of the lug overlying the upper and lower surfaces of the fitment member and a screw 5 holding them together. This arrangement minimizes the transmission of bending moments to the screw 5. The rim may be split. The other hinge member 13 may be carried by a forked fitment member 11 engaging a perpendicular fork in the end of the temple 10. The fitment members may be cut from a suitably shaped bar, for example of aluminium or plastic which has been extruded or formed by die-casting or injection moulding.
