670,057. Automatic flying control systems. BROCHE, L. J. Nov. 1, 1949 [Nov. 9, 1948], No. 27975/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (iv). To maintain stable flight in craft, the control surface for each axis is divided, Fig. 1 (not shown), or trim tabs are provided which are servo-actuated by individual motors responsive to respectively, the angle of yaw, angular speed, and angular acceleration, about that axis. The system is applicable to ailerons, elevators and rudders, of aircraft, ships or submarines &c. Alternatively the signals proportional to the angular speed plus angular acceleration may together control the main surface, and the yaw-angle-signal may control the trim tab, Fig. 2 (not shown). The signal voltages are obtained from potentiometers associated with the gyro-vertical or direction indicator, Fig. 7 (not shown).
