Abstract

669,878. Gaseous-pressure engines. ANDERSON, W. H. Nov. 15, 1950. [Nov. 25, 1949] No. 30240/49. Classes 122(ii) and 122 (iii). A revolving cylinder gaseous pressure engine comprises a hollow shaft 11 rotatably mounted in bearings 12 in a casing 10 and carrying a cylinder block 15 provided with a ring of axial cylinders 16 housing pistons 21 which bear at their outer ends on a swash-plate mounted in the casing 10. the working medium being supplied through an axial inlet pipe 18 and exhausted through the hollow shaft 11. The ends 22 of the pistons are tapered and bear on a ring 24 mounted on ball bearings 25 housed in a plate 26 mounted on a swashplate 23. The inlet pipe 18 extends into the bore of the hollow shaft and at the position 19 where it is a running fit therein is provided with a radial port 20 to register with radial passages 17 to supply pressure to one or more cylinders 16 and is non- circular to permit exhaust from some of the other cylinders through passages 17 and the shaft 11.
