Abstract

669,861. Mincing. BOWMAN (LONDON), Ltd., E. J., and WILDMAN, H. S. Feb. 13, 1950 [July 30, 1949], No. 17360/49. Class 28 (ii). [Also in Groups I and II] A mixing apparatus comprises the combination of a mixing vessel formed with grooved or ribbed walls, a single set of cutting and agitating blades disposed in the base of the vessel, a power operated spindle extending through the base of the vessel, upper and lower nut components adapted to be screwed on to the head of said spindle for securing the blade assembly in position between them, a housing upon which the mixing vessel is supported, an electric motor disposed within said housing and a clutch connection between the motor shaft and the blade spindle which enables the vessel and blade assembly to be removed as a unit for cleaning and replacement. As shown in Fig. 3 the blades 3, 4 and 5 are bent upwards or downwards all at different angles and are secured to a spindle 6 between upper and lower nut members 11, 12 screwed on to the spindle. The spindle 6 passes through a bearing which comprises a housing 8 formed with a flange 9 which rests upon the base of the vessel and with a screw threaded extension which passes through the base of the vessel to receive a clamping nut on the outside thereof. Two bearing sleeves 15, 16, a press fit within the bore of the housing 8 receive the spindle 6 and prevent axial play of the spindle and also prevent egress of the fluid from the vessel or ingress of lubricant into the vessel. The lower end of the spindle has a clutch component 7 which is detachably engageable with a co-operating member on the upper end of a shaft driven by an electric motor disposed within a housing or framework upon which the mixing vessel is detachably supported.
