Class 86 An appliance for mixing liquid or viscous substances comprises a motor-driven shaft, carrying an impeller adjacent to a restricted throat. The motor 1, mounted on a member 2 having handles P, drives a sleeve 12 with a squared or hexagonal bore by means of which a nut 5 on the end of the shaft 4 is positively driven. The shaft 4, also supported in a lower bearing 9, is held in position by a framework consisting of four threaded rods 8 and carries an impeller 7 at its lower end adjacent to a restricted throat member 10. The impeller comprises six curved blades extending radially from a hub, B, Fig. 2, three alternate ones of which carry upwardly inclined vanes a, to assist in drawing the liquid downwards, and orifices b which allow part of the liquid to pass through and so assist the mixing. Wedge-shaped bars d also join adjacent blades in pairs and further assist in mixing. A perforated tube 16 surrounds the spindle 4 and has a funnel-shaped upper end through which extra substances may be added to the mixture and selected portions of the tube may be blanked off by detachable, circular baffles 15.
