Abstract

669,803. Heating water by current therethrough. LEVY, S. J. Sept. 11,.1950 [Sept. 9, 1949], No. 22272/50. Class 39(iii) In heating water by passage of current between annular metal plate electrodes 6, 7 immersed in the water in a casing 1, the latter is mounted on a water tap by a collar 18 secured by pressure screws 19 around the tap outlet 22. A flanged cup 16 at the top of the casing 1 is supported by an inwardly flanged ring 17 which screws on to the collar 18 and when tightened compresses centrally apertured washers 20 against the spout of the tap. A central metal tube 12 is screwed into the cup 16, and when cold water is required a flap valve 24 hinged at 25 to the casing is opened so that water passes directly through the tube 12. When hot water is required, the valve 24 is closed by the engagement of an extension 28 at its end in a slot in a spring blade 29 attached to the casing 1, so that when the tap is opened water passes through apertures 13 in the tube 12 up over the electrodes 6, 7 to an outlet pipe 4 on the side of the upper part of the casing. The pipe 4 is earthed by a metal band 15 secured thereto and to the pipe 12, which is itself earthed by its metal connection to the tap. The electrodes 6, 7 are alternately connected to two threaded rods 8, upper ends of which are connected by nuts 9 to a supply cable passing through an insulating cover 10. The casing is preferably of plastic in two parts screwed together at 30, the top part having a tubular extension about the tube 12.
