Abstract
669,784. Automatic voltage control systems; rectifying. FERRANTI, Ltd., and HEAPS, J. G. Feb. 20, 1951 [Nov. 24, 1949], No. 30104/49. Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv). In a voltage stabilizer of the type employing a controlled series valve 6, in order to obtain improved stabilization at low current loads a second controlled valve 15 is connected across the output terminals 4, 5, the grid of the valve 15 being connected to a tapping 16 on a potentiometer 17 so that at load currents above a predetermined value the valve is cut off. The potentiometer 17 is connected across two rectifier arrangements 13, 18, the stabilizer input terminals being connected across the rectifier 13 only so that at load currents below the predetermined value the potential of the tapping 16 and hence the conductivity of the valve 15 is responsive only to variations in the D.C. supply voltage caused by variations in the load current, and is independent of variations in the A.C. supply voltage.
