Abstract

669,421. Sewing-machines. BRITISH CELANESE Ltd. June 22, 1949 [June 22, 1948], No. 16593/49. Class 112. [Also in Groups VIII and XVI] Prior to being stitched together by a sewing- machine 37, two fabric edges are uncurled by a driven, endless, flexible belt 35 and trimmed by a cutter 36. One run of belt 35, which may be of rubber and of round or other cross-section, is arranged to move outwardly between, and thereby uncurl, the curled edges of the layers of fabric 1 as they are drawn between guide plates 9, 19. The free end 10 of plate 9 is bent down so that fabric may be safely drawn thereover; plate 19 is carried by an arm 18 spring-pressed against a stop 23 which can be adjusted to control the clearance between plates 9, 19. Prior to passing between the guide plates, the lower fabric layer passes under an arm 26 and under a suitable guide, while the upper fabric layer passes over arm 26 and over a suitable guide. The base plate 2 supporting the uncurling apparatus may be formed as an extension to the table top 3 of the sewing-machine.
