[Also in Group XI] High-frequency electric field seam-welding of dielectric sheet material is effected by arranging upon a lower electrode, constituted or adapted to be supported by the lower platen of a press, superposed sheets of material to be welded and a metallic strip arranged edgeways over the top sheet, and producing relative movement of the upper and lower platens of the press in order to subject the material to pressure, between the lower edge of the metal strip and the lower electrode, whilst an appropriate highfrequency electric field exists between the strip and the lower electrode to produce welding of the sheet material along a path which is deter-. mined by the contour of the lower edge of the metal strip. The sheet material may be of a size sufficient to produce a plurality of welded articles by successive operations using a single strip unit, or by means of several such units used simultaneously. Apparatus as described in Specification 660,359 may be used. The metal, strip may be in the form of a closed figure, or a number of strips coupled together by struts to form a single piece structure may be used. Specification 555,054 also is referred to.
