668,730. Stands. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 24, 1948. No. 25006/48. Class 52 (iii). [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXIX] The telescopic upright of a microphone stand is supported in a hollow base by a resilient pivot and a resilient centering arrangement and the slack of the electric cable which passes through the upright is coiled in the base. The outer tube 19, Figs. 1 and 2, of the upright is supported intermediate its ends by a rubber collar 7 fixed in the base 1 and is centered by an anti-vibration mounting consisting of a rubber diaphragm 9 having an outer flange clamped to the base 1 and an inner flange clamped to a member 14 threaded onto the tube 19. A rubber ring 22 mounted on a plate 17 secured to the base 1 limits relative movement between the tube 19 and the base in all directions. The base 1 rests on three cushioned feet 3. A movable inner tube 23 carries a leather washer 24 and slides in a similar washer 31 carried by the outer tube, and the air lock between these washers serves to cushion telescoping movement of the tubes. The inner tube is locked in position by rotation of a ferrule 34 to tighten a split fibre ring 33. The cable 30 is secured in a rubber ring 27 in the lower end of the inner tube 23 and its coiling may be facilitated by shaping the base plate as shown in Fig. 5. A modified construction of upright comprises two concentric tubes rigidly connected at their lower ends and third tube sliding in the intervening space. The ends of the innermost tube are provided with flared members to facilitate movement of the cable therethrough.
