In a wringer having a top bar carrying a spring by which pressure is applied to the rolls and a release mechanism which operates to release one end of the top bar which can then swing upwards about a detachable pivot which secures the other end of the top bar to the wringer frame, the pivot is in the form of a pin engaged by an open hook-like member and resilient means are provided which can operate to disengage the pin from the member. In the arrangement shown, as applied to a wringer of the kind disclosed in Specification 593,931, in which a top bar 5 is connected at one end to a stile by means of releasable toggle mechanism, the other end of the bar is pivoted to a stile 2 by means of a pin 10 secured to that end of the bar and fitting into a curled-over edge of a bracket 11, secured to the stile 2. A spring 13, located in a recess in the stile 2 projects at its lower end through the bracket 11 and extends, at its upper end through a slot in the bracket. Upon operation of the toggle mechanism, the top bar 5 swings upwardly about the pin 10 which is subsequently released from the bracket 11 by the action of spring 13. The spring may operate on the pin on either side of the bracket.
