Abstract
668,351. Suction end-cattchers for spinning and like machines. SULZER FRERES SOC ANON. Dec. 2, 1949 [Dec. 4, 1948; Sept. 1, 1949; Oct. 31, 1949], Nos. 31013/49, 31014/49 and 31015/49. Class 120(ii) [Also in Group XXVIII] Broken ends of a row of threads 1, Fig. 1, running from delivery rollers 2 to guides 3 and spindles 4 are caught by individual suction nozzles 5 located adjacent each thread run and mounted on a suction head 7 detachably connected, e.g. by an elastic sleeve 11 and a duct 8 to a suction chamber 10, the head 7 having a normally closed aperture giving access to the interior for cleaning purposes. The aperture is closed by a member 6 bolted to the head 7 and extending the whole width thereof, and the nozzles 5 are integral with or screwed to the member 6 in such a position that incoming air impinges on the rear wall 9, Fig. 2, and deposits dirt thereon. In a modification the closure member is hinged to the suction head and is held by spring clips. In a further modification the nozzles are constituted by holes in a plate 35, Fig. 6, which is screwed to the head 33 and the latter has an aperture closed by a spring- held hinged flap 36. Alternatively the flap may be detachable and guided in slides. Each nozzle is electrically earthed and is made of opaque material of high electrical conductivity, and together with the closure member is of a colour, e.g. green contrasting with that of the threads. Part of the suction head is made of transparent synthetic resin to enable accumulated dirt to be observed.
