Abstract

668,001. Refrigerating. AKTIESELSKABET, T. T., SABROE & CO. March 20, 1950 [April 27, 1949], No. 6850/50. Class 29. A circulated cooling medium is constituted by water containing fine particles of ice and is withdrawn from a tank to which ice particles are continuously added. Water from an air cooler 38 flows into a rotating trough 42 whence it is sprayed by a pipe 44 on to the wall of a stationary cylinder having a refrigerant jacket 12. Ice formed is removed by a scraper 30 rotating with the trough 42 and the ice and water fall into a tank 10 from which the mixture is circulated by a pump 34 back to the cooler 38. In a modification, the cylinder is immersed in water, the ice particles floating to the top of the tank 10 whence the circulation is taken off, the return liquid entering the bottom of the tank 10. Instead of using rotary scrapers, the cylinder may rotate. The axis of the cylinder may be horizontal. The scraper blades are pivoted to their supports and are spring- controlled so that, if they should meet with high resistance, they will ride over the obstruction.
