Class 94(i) [Also in Group VI] In an apparatus for delivering a quantity of scrap or cut tobacco, predetermined as by weighing, into a bag, the tobacco is received by pivoted portions 6, 7, Fig. 2, of adjacent walls 2, 3 of a vertical tube, the gap between the portions 6, 7 when swung open as shown to receive tobacco being closed by a sector plate 12 hinged to the portion 7 and pressed against the portion 6 by a spring (not shown). A third wall portion 14 is formed as a sector plate rigidly attached to the portion 6 and slides past the edge of a fourth fixed wall 4 which is extended to co-act with the portion 7. When the wall portions 6, 7 have been closed to compress the tobacco, it is forced out of the tube into a preformed bag by a stamp 5. In Fig. 1 (not shown), the portion 6 co-acts with a fixed wall in the manner of the portion 7. Three or all four sides of the tube may open. In Fig. 3, swinging sector plates 19, 20 forming two opposed wall portions when closed are operated by rollers 24 mounted on a hinged wall portion 21 and co-acting with cam tracks 27 on the plates 19, 20. The remaining wall 4 is fixed and extended to co-act with the plates. Springs 29 hold the tracks 27 in contact with the rollers 25. The apparatus is operated by a strut 28 connected to the portion 21 and reciprocated as from a crank rod. In Fig. 4 (not shown) only those parts of the plates 19, 20 corresponding to the actual wall portions are pivoted, the rest forming flexible members attached at a slight angle to these portions and co-acting slidably with the edges of the portion 21.
