Abstract
667,531. Aerials. GRASHOW, J. April 25, 1950, No. 10162/50. Class 40 (vii). An antenna structure is arranged to be fixed in a hole in the body of a vehicle from the outside only. The mounting comprises a sleeve 12 to either side of which are attached arms 19 at pivots 20. When the arms lie along the sleeve they may be pushed through the hole in the body and then can be rotated to grip against the inside of the body in the position shown. The axis of the pivots 20 is arranged horizontal and the sleeve secured by means of a sealing washer 22 spacer member 25 and nut 27. The aerial which may be of the telescopic whip type extends through a rubber gasket 28 in the nut 27 and is held centrally in the sleeve by insulating bushings 16 and 17. The lower end of the aerial is provided with a coupling pin 30 which connects with the central conductor of a coaxial cable 31 which joins the antenna to the radio equipment. The outer conductor of the coaxial cable serves to earth the equipment and is secured to flanged member 32 fastened to the lower end of the sleeve by nut 33, so that electrical connection is made with the body of the vehicle through the sleeve and the arms 19, whose ends dig in. In a modification the antenna terminates in a ball 46 so as to be detachable. The ball is held between a nut 47 and a socket nut 44 having a hemispherical depression in its upper surface to accommodate the ball. The lower part of nut 44 is secured to the top of a rod 35 which is held in insulating spacers in the sleeve and connected to the cable in the same way as the bottom of the antenna in the previous embodiment. The sleeve mounting details differ in detail from those of Fig. 1.
