Abstract

An 8-haloxanthine salt of an aminoalkyl diarylalkyl ether of formula <FORM:0667113/IV (b)/1> where Ar and Ar1 are lower aryl, R is lower alkyl or hydrogen, Alk is lower alkylene radical having from 1-4 carbon atoms and B is an aliphatic type organic amino radical, is prepared by treating the above compound with an 8-haloxanthine which contains a hydrogen atom in position 7. Examples of radicals denoted by Ar and Ar1 are phenyl, tolyl, chlorophenyl, bromophenyl, iodophenyl, methoxyphenyl, ethoxyphenyl, and xylyl. Examples of the radical B are mono- and di-(lower alkyl) amino radicals wherein the lower alkyl radicals may be the same or different and the corresponding mono- or di-hydroxyalkyl) amino radicals. B may also represent cyclic amino radicals and heterocyclic amino radicals which are aliphatic in character. It includes amino group such as cyclohexylamino, cyclopentylamino, morpholino, piperidino, pyrrolidino, thiamorpholino, and alkyl derivatives of such amino radicals. Acidic xanthines mentioned include 8 - chlorotheophylline, 8 - bromotheophylline, 8 - chloroxanthine, 3 - methyl - 8-chloroxanthine, 8 - bromoxanthine, 3 - methyl-8 - chloroxanthine, 1 : 3 - diethyl - 8 - bromoxanthine, 1 : 3 - diethyl - 8 - chloroxanthine, 8 - iodotheophylline, 8 - iodo - 1 : 3 - dimethylxanthine. In examples various combinations of the above components are described. b -cyclohexylaminoethyl benzohydryl ether is made by refluxing b -chloroethyl benzohydryl ether and cyclohexylamine in butanone in the presence of potassium idoide.
