Abstract

The invention comprises substituted pyrrolines and tetrahydropyridines of the general formula: <FORM:0951061/C2/1> in which Z represents an alkylene radical and which contains a chain of 3 or 4 carbon atoms and which may be substituted by an alkyl group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, and R represents a substituted phenyl or naphthyl radical of the formula: <FORM:0951061/C2/2> <FORM:0951061/C2/3> in which R1 represents a hydroxyl group or an alkoxy, alkyl-mercapto or halogen-alkoxy group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 each represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an alkyl or alkoxy group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, a carbalkoxy group containing at most 3 carbon atoms, or a halogen atom, R4 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an alkyl or alkoxy group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, or R1 and R4 together represent an ethylene-dioxy group, or, when R represents a substituted phenyl radical and R3 represents a hydrogen atom, R1 may also represent a hydrogen atom and R4 represent a radical -X-R5, in which X represents an oxygen or sulphur atom, and R5 represents a group of the formula: <FORM:0951061/C2/4> in which Z, R2 and X have the meanings given above, and Y is a whole number from 2 to 6, and salts thereof. They are prepared by condensing a compound of type RH with a primary g or d -aminocarboxylic acid or a salt or reactive functional derivative thereof, e.g. an ester, in polyphosphoric acid medium. The products may be used as optical brighteners and ultraviolet absorbers for textiles (Division D1) or as vasopressor drugs.ALSO:Optical brighteners and ultraviolet absorbers for textile fibres, specifically polyacrylonitrile comprise substituted pyrrolines and tetrahydropyridines of the general formula: <FORM:0951061/D1-D2/1> in which Z represents an alkylene radical and which contains a chain of 3 or 4 carbon atoms and which may be substituted by an alkyl group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, and R represents a substituted phenyl or naphthyl radical of the formula: <FORM:0951061/D1-D2/2> in which R1 represents a hydroxyl group or an alkoxy, alkyl-mercapto or halogen-alkoxy group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 each represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an alkyl or alkoxy group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, a carbalkoxy group containing at most 3 carbon atoms, or a halogen atom, R4 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an alkyl or alkoxy group containing at most 4 carbon atoms, or R1 and R4 together represent an ethylenedioxy group, or, when R represents a substituted phenyl radical and R3 represents a hydrogen atom, R1 may also represent a hydrogen atom and R4 represent a radical -X-R5, in which X represents an oxygen or sulphur atom, and R5 represents a group of the formula: <FORM:0951061/D1-D2/3> in which Z, R2 and X have the meanings given above, and Y is a whole number from 2 to 6 and salts thereof. They may be applied from hot aqueous baths.
