Abstract
The invention comprises dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0896972/IV (c)/1> where A is a substituted or unsubstituted anthraquinone nucleus free from -COOH and -SO3H radicals; R1, R2 and R3 are alkyl radicals of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; Y is an organic or inorganic anion; m is 1 or 2; n is 2, 3 or 4 and the sulphur atom is attached to an alpha or beta position of the anthraquinone nucleus. The anthraquinone nucleus may be substituted in alpha-positions by amino, alkylamino, arylamino, aralkylamino, acylamino and hydroxy, and in beta-positions by halogen. The dyestuffs are made by condensing a mercaptan of the formula: A-(SH)m with a tertiary amine of the formula: <FORM:0896972/IV (c)/2> and alkylating the product with an alkylating agent having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl groups, such as an alkyl halide, alkyl sulphate or alkyl ester of p-toluene-sulphonic acid. Examples are given. The dyestuffs dye acrylic fibres obtained from polyacrylonitrile or a copolymer containing as major constituent acrylonitrile in light yellow to blue shades from neutral or acid aqueous solution.
