Abstract

Cellulose acetate rayon is coloured in the mass with dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0883807/IV (a)/1> where Pc is the residue of a stable metal phthalocyanine colouring matter which may carry at most one sulphonic acid group, -X- is -CH2- or -SO2-, R1 is a lower alkylene radical, R2 is a lower alkyl or an aryl radical, R3 is hydrogen, lower alkyl or -R4.O.CO.R2 where R4 is lower alkylene, n is a number from 2 to 8, and "lower" means that the radical contains not more than 5 carbon atoms.ALSO:The invention comprises dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0883807/IV (c)/1> where Pc is the residue of a stable metal phthalocyanine colouring matter which may carry at most one sulphonic acid group, -X- is -CH2- or -SO2-, R1 is a lower alkylene radical, R2 is a lower alkyl or aryl radical, R3 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl radical or the group -R4.O.CO.R2 where R4 is a lower alkylene radical, n is any number from 2 to 8 and the term "lower" indicates that the radical contains not more than 5 carbon atoms. The dyes are made by heating a compound of the formula <FORM:0883807/IV (c)/2> with the anhydride or chloride of an acid R2COOH wherein R5 is hydrogen, lower alkyl or -R6OH where R6 is lower alkylene, or by treating a compound of the formula Pc-[-X-halogen]n with and amine of the formula <FORM:0883807/IV (c)/3> Examples are given. The dyestuffs colour plastics and lacquers and in particular cellulose acetate blue to green shades (see Group IV(a)). Specifications 586,340 and 844,338 are referred to.
