Abstract
666,930. Gas turbine plant. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and HARDING, J. K., (formerly KAMMERER, J. H.). Sept. 15, 1950. [Sept. 16, 1949] No. 23945/49. Class 110(iii) [Also in Group XXIX] A liquid-fuel supply system for an aircraft gas-turbine engine and of the kind comprising a pump (not shown) having an inlet 13 and an outlet 14 connected at 15 to a conduit having a variable throttle and leading to the burners, a piston-actuated byepass valve 25 controlling a byepass between the outlet and inlet of the pump, a restricted passage 29, 30 from the pump outlet to the outer face of the piston 23 which actuates the valve 25, and a passage 31 having a vent valve (not shown) controlled by means responsive to any suitable engine-controlling variable is characterized in that the byepass valve is slidable in its housing without spring bias and in that the byepass between the pump outlet and the valve 25 has a spring-closed valve 33. The valve 33 allows, when the engine is being started, a delivery pressure to be generated sufficient to close the byepass valve by action on the outer face of the piston 23 before delivery pressure is admitted, through passages 18, 19, 27, to the inner face of the piston. The valve 33 unseats before the engine attains a selfrunning condition and remains open until the engine passes below its idling speed. The connection to the burners may be taken from between the valve 33 and the byepass valve instead of from the point shown.
