Abstract

666,366. Lantern slides. SEARY, E. G. Sept. 30, 1949 [Oct. 9, 1948], No. 25124/49] Class 98 (ii). [Also in Group XV] A transparency mount for use in e.g. a projection printer is formed from a paper blank C, having two apertures a, b which register when the blank is folded at D, and projections G defining the transparency seat portion F which are substantially obliterated by a pressure operation to which the folded blank is subjected after the transparency E is placed in position, in order to establish an adhesive bond between the two parts of the blank. The projections G are formed by embossing or indenting by a small punch having a bevelled end so that the projections are inclined at a small angle to the plane of section B. The adhesive used may be rubber or vinyl compound such as is employed in scotch tape, animal glue or preferably a temperaturesensitive adhesive such as polyvinyl acetate or nitrocellulose. The transparency is sealed in the mount and sections of the mount sealed together in either a single or two operations, by e.g. a flat iron hot enough to raise the adhesive temperature to about 300‹ F., or in the case of a single operation by an electrically-heated power press whose platen is formed with an opening having horizontal dimensions substantially the same as those of the transparency E. Alternatively the projections at the side of the aperture b opposite to the fold. may be omitted and the two sections bonded together only above, below and at the left-hand side of the aperture b by using a platen different from the one described above only in that there is no portion to the right of the opening and this is increased in size. The transparency may then be inserted between the two sections and the mount subjected to a second bonding operation in which the projections G are pressed back into the section B and the unbonded portions of the mount are bonded together.
