Abstract

666,361. Handles. HANDLEY, W. Aug. 28, 1950 [Aug. 29, 1949], No. 22396/49. Class 61 (i). A detachable handle for a broom or other socketed tool comprises a tubular member 1 provided at one end with one or more longitudinal slits 1b to enable that end of the tube to be expanded into engagement with the walls of the tool socket by a cone shaped member 3 having a threaded shank 3c engaging a nut 4 secured to a handle 5 rotatable in the other end of the tube. The tube 1 has a conical inner surface provided with a longitudinal slot in which engages a key on the cone 3. The nut comprises a threaded aperture in a rod secured transversely in the hollow handle 5. In a modification the tubular member 1 comprises a number of segments held together by resilient bands. The tube may comprise the major part of the handle a short rotatable handle being inserted in its free end or the tubes 1 and 5 may both be short, the latter having fixed thereto a long wooden handle.
