Relates to fertilizer distributers of the type comprising a laterally-elongated wheeled hopper 34 having ports 53 in its base, the ports being partially obturated by a similarly-ported shutter 58 movably mounted below the hopper base. According to the invention, blades 114 mounted on a rotary agitator shaft 98 within the hopper sweep through the ports 53 to prevent clogging. As shown in Fig. 12, the ports 53 may include a slot 54 through which the blades 114 pass without interfering with the movement of the underlying shutter 58. The hopper, agitator shaft and shutter are made in two halves. Each wheel 97 drives one half of the agitator shaft 98, the inner ends being supported on a central bearing 102. The two halves of the shutter 57, 58 are simultaneously adjusted by a bellcrank 65 coupled to a hand-lever 75 which passes through a slot 80 in the draw-bar 78. The lever 75 may be clamped in any adjusted position by a stepped cam-like adjusting plate 87 (see Fig. 14). The blades 114 form part of feeding and agitating plates 113 which also include wings 115 intended to comminute the material and feed it towards the ports 53. Interspersed with the plates 113 are spiders 116 having oppositely-cranked blades 117, 118, adjacent blades being staggered around the axis of the shafts 98 so that the blades 117, 118 all lie upon helical loci, Fig. 7, (not shown).
