Abstract
665,203. Leaf filters. NAUGLE, J. J. Sept. 22, 1948. [Oct. 10, 1947] No. 24831/48. Class 46. A filter leaf comprises a porous filter bag 29, a flexible grid structure 28 within the bag including a plurality of coiled members movably interengaged along lines parallel to a supporting member 27 for the structure which provides shape and support for the bag. A wire frame 35, Fig. 3, may be disposed about the filter bag. A plurality of the leaves are suspended in a tank 13, Fig. 1, with scrubbing elements 26, e.g. of the same construction as the structures 28 in between. Conduits 30 communicate with the interiors of the filter leaves to receive filtrate from the leaves in one direction of flow and to convey washing fluid to the leaves in the opposite direction of flow. The flow of the washing fluid urges the porous bags 29 into contact with the scrubbing elements 26 whereby the filter cake deposited on the bags 29 during a filtering operation is removed therefrom. Each pipe 30 communicates with an auxiliary conduit 21 removably coupled to a main conduit 22 and provided with a sight glass 24.
