Abstract

663,866. Testing brakes dynamometrically. SWITH, H. C. March 5, 1947 [March 6, 1946], No. 17248/48. Divided out of 663,812. Drawings to Specification. Class 106 (ii). Apparatus for measuring the braking resistance of the brakes of wheeled vehicles comprises an extensible strut for interposition between the brake-actuating pedal and a stationary part of the vehicle, this strut being spring-loaded to apply a substantially constant force on the pedal, and a torque-measuring appliance including a member adapted to be detachably secured to the wheel or brake drum so as to rotate therewith. A torque-applying and measuring lever assembly is engageable with, and releasable from, any of a plurality of angularly-spaced portions of the said member whereby a series of comparable measurements of braking resistances can be made in different rotational positions of the wheel or drum without detaching therefrom the appliance as a whole. As described, the strut is of the kind described in Specification 663,813, and the torque - measuring appliance of the kind described in Specification 663,812.
