Abstract

663,629. Non-metal resistances. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF TECHNICAL SERVICES OF. May 4,1948 [May 6, 1947], No. 12221/48. Drawings to Specification. Class 37. A resistor of moulded composition consisting of a filler, binder and conductive material is distinguished in that the binder is a melamineformaldehyde thermo-setting resin. The filler is a fine grain mineral fibre, such as asbestos or mineralite. The conductive material may be powdered metals, for example silver or copper, but is preferably graphite or lamp black or a combination of the two. Fig. 1 (not shown), is a chart showing the stages in the moulding process, mixing details, curing temperature, &c. Figs. 2, 3 and 4 (not shown) are examples of zero temperature coefficient rod and tubular radio resistors with moulded-in terminals. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that a resorcinol-formaldehyde plastic may be used as the binder. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specificaas accepted.
