Abstract
663,173. Spray carburetters. SOLEX. April 23, 1948'[April 26, 1947], No. 11261/48. Class 7(iii) The flow of fuel under pressure supplied from a pipe 5 to a nozzle 30 through a normal working jet 28 is controlled by a spring-loaded valve 7 operated through a rod 9 by differential diaphragms 10, 12, forming a chamber 11 therebetween subjected through a pipe 15 to the suction in a Venturi 4 upstream of the throttle valve 2, the diaphragm 10 being also subjected to the fuel pressure in a chamber 6, and an idling orifice 33 is fed .through a jet 35, subject to ,the suction downstream of the throttle valve when the latter is slightly open. The diaphragms 12, 10 are loosely connected at 13 and loaded by an adjustable spring plate 42, which is forced back by a stop .50 . on , a rod 48 connected to an arm, 47 on the throttle spindle 3, when the throttle valve 2 closes to ensure closing of the valve 7 when the engine stops. An extension 48a of rod 48 forces a diaphragm 53 to the left when throttle valve 2 closes so that on porarily the air pressure in chamber 16. sudden opening, a spring 55 forces the diaphragm 53 to the right to increase temcausing valve 7 to open to provide fuel for acceleration. When the suction in conduit 29 reaches a predetermined value, a valve 57 is opened to reduce the suction in chamber 11 and reduce the fuel flow. The nozzle 30 may open downstream of throttle valve 2. in which case a large orifice 31 destroys the effect of suction thereon, or upstream of the valve 2, e.g. at the Venturi 4. in which case the orifice 31 is replaced by a small air bleed orifice. The pipe 15 may also have a connection 61 to a point adjacent the throttle valve 2. which increases the suction in the space 11 at small throttle openings. In a modification, a check valve 21 which prevents air being sucked into passage 20 during idling is replaced by. a diaphragm operated valve. Specification 600.552 is referred to-
