Abstract

662,696. Walls and partitions. MARTIN-PARRY CORPORATION. June 21, 1949, No. 16433/49. Class 20(iv) A wall or partition structure built of prefabricated elements comprises posts between which panels are arranged one above another, a strip member being placed in each horizontal joint between the panels so as to prevent passage of light therethrough, the said member resting on the lower panel and providing a seat for the upper panel and extending between, and resiliently engaging guide means on' adjacent posts so that it is free to move vertically, while being held against lateral movement. In the form shown, a partition is built up of a number of spaced posts 16 which are resiliently held at the lower end by plates 37 screwed to the floor, and support at their upper ends a cornice consisting of an inverted channel member 55 to each side of which is riveted channels 58 and 59 adapted to carry wiring &c. and closed by sprung covers 62. Each post is built up of interengaging channel section members 19 and 48, adjacent posts presenting opposed vertical channels which serve to accommodate tiers of panels, each of which consists of a rectangular frame formed of channel section members 13 and 14 with inturned flanges 15 on the outside of the frame and upstanding parts 15a inside, against which a glass panel 12 or metal panel 12a is supported. In assembly, the lowermost panel is placed between the posts and supported on angles 17 attached thereto. A strip 22, formed with depending lips 25 and upstanding ribs 24, is placed on the panel, the lips 25 engaging between the flanges 15 of the upper member 13 thereof. The strip 22 has U-section extensions 26 which pass into and resiliently engage vertical slots formed in the sides of each post. The upper panel is placed on the strip, the ribs 24 entering between the flanges 15 of the lower member 14 thereof. The panels are thus secured against lateral movement on all edges, the strip 22 also serving to prevent light passing between them.
