Abstract

662,570. Printing-machines. RAS, M. May 26, 1949 [Nov. 22, 1948], No. 14104/49. Class 100 (ii). Inking and damping apparatus.-In an inking or damping roller trip the pivot pin 6 at each end of the roller 7 has a conical face 10 seating on, and is rigidly screwed to, a revolving part 8 carried, without play at one end of the roller and with axial play at the other end of the roller, by a ball-bearing 5 eccentrically mounted on an axle pin 3 carried eccentrically in a trip member 2 rotatable in the machine frame 1. As shown the ball-bearing 5 is clamped within the part 8 by a screwed ring, but the corresponding bearing at the other end of the roller 7 is held with limited axial play (to allow for thermal expansion of the roller in use) by a ring engaging an internal groove in the part 8. The roller is initially adjusted by rotation both of the axle 3 (by its knob 4) relative to the member 2, and of the member 2 relative to the trip sprocket 13, these settings being held respectively. by a clamp 22 and by a brake block 15 having a skewed face 16 and which grips the inner surface of the sprocket as it is moved axially by a bolt 18 rotated by a collar 20 abutting against a' washer 21. By forming the seating face of the pivot pin 6 as an internal cone 10 it is protected from damage when the roller 7 is removed from the machine.
