Abstract

662,478. Liquid filters. FRAM CORPORATION. May 16, 1949. No. 12986/49. Class 46. A liquid filter particularly for fuel oils for feeding motors, burners or similar installations comprises a head a having an inlet opening a<SP>1</SP> and an outlet opening c, a depending container d removably secured to the head a and containing the filter element e through which the liquid must pass from the inlet opening to the outlet opening and a chamber f in said head from which the outlet opening extends, the liquid entering the chamber f from the container at a level higher than the outlet opening c whereby a liquid seal of the outlet c is maintained when the container d is removed from the head a. Valve means such as the air-drain plug l, is provided in the head to relieve air trapped in the head. A byepass conduit including a spring valve may also be provided in the head to allow liquid in the head, except in the chamber f, to return to the feed tank when the feed from the filter to the consuming installation is shut off.
