Class 70 A hard rigid board having the characteristics of lumber is obtained by heating and pressing a mixture of from 60 to 98 per cent of wood fibres and 2 to 40 per cent of a bonding agent consisting of brown rotted wood. Preferably the rotted wood is reduced to a paste-like consistency and is used in a proportion of 15 per cent of the mixture. The wood in the form of sawdust, chips, shavings or hogged fuel may first be boiled in water and then reduced to fibres, the rotted wood added in a finely divided form and the mass pressed at 350‹- 380‹F at.50 lbs. per sq. inch pressure. Pigments, and waterproofing agents such as paraffin, petrolatum, and silicon compounds may also be added.
