Abstract
661,978. Making spot-welding electrodes. ROVER CO., Ltd. Feb. 9, 1950 [March 5, 1949], No. 6078/49. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). In reclaiming a water cooled, copperalloy spot - welding electrode, the working end is severed from the shank through the end of the water passage and a new working end having a spigot is soldered to a mating spigot provided on the shank without allowing the heat to travel and reduce the tip hardness. The tip 12, Fig. 1, of an electrode is severed from the shank 20 at 23 and an axial spigot 16, Fig. 2, is turned thereon to engage a recess 17 in a working end provided with the end 24 of the water passage 15. Tinman's solder and resistance heating are employed to join the parts quickly. A worn dressed tip may be replaced, after unsoldering the joint, by a new tip. Spanner flats 21 are provided on the electrode and on a cranked electrode described. Silver solder and easy flow types may be used.
