661,739. Making electric components; soldering. ERIE RESISTOR CORPORATION. Nov. 16, 1949 [Feb. 5, 1949], No. 29304/49. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXXVI] An electric circuit assembly comprises an insulating base 3 having a circuit component 1 clamped to one face thereof by a lead 4 soldered to, and overlying, a terminal 2 of the component, the lead 4 passing through an aperture 5 in the base and being soldered to a metal coating 6 on the other face thereof. The insulating base 3 and the body of the circuit component 1 are of material which is non-adherent to solder so that after the component 1 has been temporarily clamped to the base 3 by bending the lead 4 over the terminal 2, the soldered connections may be effected by immersion in molten solder. By this method, solder fills the aperture 5 around the lead 4 and securely anchors the components. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement of metal coatings 6a, 6bci, 6de, 6fg and 6hk on a base 3a to give the circuit shown in Fig. 7, each end of terminal-ended components (resistors and condensers) 1af, lbg, 1ch, 1di and lek being secured to the base by a lead 4 as above, the edges only of the base 3a being immersed in molten solder. The unwanted leads 4 are subsequently cut back to the metal coating and the assembly dipped in an insulating compound.
