661,434. Photographic film packages. BARADEL, V. J. July 8, 1949 (Sept. 24, 1948], No. 18061/49. Class 98(i). The package comprises a photographic film rolled up on itself and a surface perpendicular and adjacent to each edge of the film roll, each surface having an annular area covered with a fibrous pile into which the longitudinal edges of the film penetrate to form a light-trap preventing premature exposure of the film. The package shown comprises a film 14 coiled around the core 11 of a spool, the inner surfaces of the flanges 12 thereof being covered with a fibrous pile 13. The pile may be provided by flock fibres deposited on a layer of adhesive coated on the inner surface of each flange or on a layer of paper or metal foil stuck to said inner surface. The pile may also be of napped felt, velvet or velour, or may be formed by teasing the surface of a woven fabric or may be of viscose rayon, acetate rayon or synthetic resins, such as the polyvinyl resins, polyethylene or nylon; the fibres may be impregnated with black pigment.
