Abstract

660,979. Ground anchors. CHICAGO PNEUMATIC TOOL CO. Nov. 28, 1949 [Dec. 24, 1948], No. 30455/49. Class 45 A post comprising a column and an anchor for supporting a drill has a first portion adapted for lateral 1 expansion and a second portion engaging the surface in which the post is to be anchored and means to restrain relative axial movement between the two portions until the first portion has been expanded. As shown, a hollow column 10 is welded to one end of a yoke 15 which has a bored conical portion 26 at its other end, which conical portion engages the surface of the ground with its conical side and is a sliding fit over a collet 16 the lower end of which is slit axially to allow expansion, A draw bolt 17 engages, by its lower conical end, the inner lower part of the collet and its upper end passes through a hole 32 in the yoke; a nut 38 and a washer 35 co-operate with the screwed end of the draw-bolt to expand the collet. When the collet has been fully expanded and the serrations 22 grip the inner surface of a hole 129 in the ground, further tightening of the bolt pulls the conical portion 26 of the yoke downwards against spring 18 and into contact with the ground.
