Abstract

660,786. Mounting electric motors on rail vehicles. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 5, 1948 (Jan. 4, 1947], No. 320/48. Class 79(iii) In a suspension arrangement for an electric motor on a rail vehicle in which the ends of the motor casing are supported by a wheel axle and a bogie frame and limited relative movement between the motor, wheel axle and bogie frame is permitted, wheel axle journal boxes being resiliently supported in the frame, a bar is non-pivotally connected in an oblique position between the bogie frame and the motor casing to form a connection of limited resiliency. As shown the journal boxes 10, 10<SP>1</SP> are carried in jaws 11, 12 of side members 2, 2' of the bogie frame. Mounted on the axle 9 by cyclindrical bearings and driving the axle through a gear drive is the motor 13, which is connected to the frame either rigidly or by resilient compression springs 14. Oppositely arranged interlocking abutments 15 are provided on the motor and the frame permitting limited lateral movement of the motor with respect to the frame. In order to position the motor 13 with respect to the frame the radius bar 16 is provided obliquely in a horizontal plane between the frame and the motor. The bar 16 is connected to ears 17, 21 on the frame and motor casing respectively. The bar 16 has an elastic property permitting a slight relative movement and further resilience is provided by resilient washers 18, 22 arranged on either side of the ears 17, 21, the washers being held in position by washers 19 and nuts 20, 23 on the bar 16.
