[Class 78 (iv)] Rail trucks (not shown) are unloaded by a push plate extractor 31 which is supported at one end of a gallows arm 23 for pivoting and reciprocating movements in a horizontal plane, the other end of arm 23 being pivoted to a truck 1 relative to which it is vertically adjustable. Push plates 52 are secured to an endless chain driven by a sprocket 45 and passing over guide sprockets 47, one of which tensions the chain, and to prevent these plates from damaging the sides and floor of the truck a guard rail 54 extends around the extractor outside the path of the blades, and members 55, 56 extend beneath the level of the blade bases. The arm 23 is vertically adjustable by a screw 22 which engages a nut 15 and is rotated by a wheel 72, rotary movement of the arm being effected by a screw jack 25 which is extended by rotation of a wheel 27. A wheel 36 rotates a pinion 37 which meshes with a rack 38 secured to the extractor carriage 24, so effecting horizontal rotary movement of the extractor relative to the arm 23. A wheel 39 rotates a worm 41 which rotates a pinion 40 in mesh with a rack 43 and so effects reciprocating movement of the extractor relative to the arm 23, rollers 34 being provided, on the carriage 24, to guide the extractor during this movement. Thus with these movement controls the extractor can be inserted through a truck door and manoeuvred anywhere over the base to effect unloading of material into a hopper 13 on the truck. In a modification the hopper and arm 23 are mounted on a fixed structure.
