658,753. Supporting telephone instruments. ROSS, S. B. July 14, 1948, No. 18884. Convention date, May 14. [Class 40 (iv)] When a handset is placed on a support, it is automatically clamped in position by its own weight. Shaped portions 14, 17 of a substantially upright supporting member 13 and of a link 15 pivoted thereon are forced apart between the mouthpiece and the earpiece by the weight of the handset. Movement of the link 15 may be limited by a stop at the end of the portion 14. The member 13 is mounted on a flexible tube or on lazy tongs or is pivoted as shown to a bracket 18 on the inside of a drawer. A stop 21 holds the member 13 in a substantially vertical position. The member 13 may be turned about the pivot into the drawer. The supporting member may be made of two parts 26, 27, Figs. 5, 6, adjustably secured together by means of a pin 28, a screw 29, a slot 30 and a wing nut 31. In a modification, Fig. 8, the member 13 is pivoted to a post 55 mounted on a plate 50 carrying the telephone base 52. When the telephone is not in use, the member 13 is swung over to depress the switch buttons 54.
