658,561. Boring-bar &c. machines. AULAS, L., and AULAS, V. April 4, 1949, No. 9035. Convention date, April 2, 1948. [Class 83 (iii)] The boring bar 5 of a boring machine is supported by bearings carried by an end support 6 and intermediate supports 7 of gooseneck design, the supports being detachably mounted on carriages 2 which are slidably mounted on a frame 1 extending longitudinally along one side of the work table 12. The carriages are adjustable by means of a manually-operated feed screw 8. The work table which carries a crankcase block 13 to be bored is vertically adjustable with respect to the frame 1. The boring bar has rotary and longitudinal motion imparted thereto by means of an electric motor. The supports 6, 7 may be removed and the carriages 2, or certain of them, used to support drilling, milling, planing, or screw-cutting tools or to support workpieces in which case the tools are supported by another carriage or by the work table. When the machine is used for milling, the feed screws may be driven automatically at low speed by means of an electric motor.
